How to grow the Xingsheng bamboo? Detailed growing methods and precautions
SummaryGrowing methods: Xingsheng bamboo is shade-tolerant but not cold-tolerant, and dislikes waterlogging. The soil should be a loose, humus-rich acidic soil. Place coarse-grained substrate at the bottom of the pot, then apply an appropriate amount of decomposed organic fertilizer, cover with 2cm of soil, and then plant. The roots must not come into direct contact with the fertilizer. In winter, all branches that are too densely grown, pest-infested or diseased, thin and weak, or dead should be cut off. After several years of growing, repot into a larger pot. Growing precautions: Avoid direct strong light, the temperature should not be lower than 5°C, and do not overwater.
I. Growing methods for Xingsheng bamboo
1. Growing environment
(1) Xingsheng bamboo is an evergreen tree and a relatively common foliage potted plant. It is suitable for growing in a warm and humid environment. Xingsheng bamboo is relatively shade-tolerant, not cold-tolerant, and dislikes waterlogging. The minimum growing temperature should not be lower than minus 5°C, otherwise it is easily frostbitten or even dies.
(2) Xingsheng bamboo has low soil requirements. It is suitable for growing in humus-rich, deep, loose, moist acidic sandy loam or light clay, and can also be grown in brown forest soil and mountain yellow soil. Growing in sandy loam helps accelerate the plant's growth rate. In poor soil, growth is especially slow. It should not be grown in low-lying waterlogged areas or limestone areas.
2. Potting
Newly purchased Xingsheng bamboo from the market should be repotted, or after several years of growing into a large plant, it should be moved into a larger pot. First, put coarse-grained substrate at the bottom of the pot, about 2-3cm thick, as a drainage layer, then apply a layer of fully decomposed organic fertilizer on top, about 1-2cm thick, then cover with a 1-2cm thick layer of substrate, place the plant into the pot and plant it. Note that the roots should not come into direct contact with the fertilizer to prevent root burn.
3. Proper pruning
In winter, Xingsheng bamboo basically enters dormancy or semi-dormancy. All branches that are too densely grown, pest-infested or diseased, dead, or thin and weak should be cut off. At the same time, branch trimming can be combined with cuttings.
4. Timely repotting
(1) As long as Xingsheng bamboo is cared for properly, the plant will grow especially quickly. When it grows to a certain stage, it should be transplanted into a larger pot, which is more conducive to plant growth.
(2) You can mix your own potting soil by using garden soil, sawdust, and medium-coarse river sand in a 4:2:1 ratio, or use vegetable garden soil and furnace slag in a 3:1 ratio, or use leaf mold, pond mud, or paddy soil.
5. Removing from the pot
First, gently tap around the sides of the pot with your hand to help separate the roots from the pot wall, then hold the plant with your hand and turn the pot upside down, again gently tap the bottom of the pot with your hand, and slowly pull out the root system. After removing it from the pot, clear away all the soil inside the pot.
II. Growing precautions
1. Light: Xingsheng bamboo should not be exposed to direct strong light; appropriate scattered light is sufficient.
2. Temperature: The plant's growing temperature should not be lower than 5°C, as this easily affects normal plant growth.
3. Watering: Xingsheng bamboo prefers dryness, so do not overwater, as this easily causes root rot and yellowing leaves.
