Complete Picture Gallery and Detailed Care Guide for Firecracker Flower
SummaryPreparing the soil: Garden soil, leaf mold and decomposed cake fertilizer can be mixed in a ratio of 3:3:1. Light: Direct sunlight is fine in spring, autumn and winter, but light shade is needed in summer. Watering and fertilizing: Water once every 3-4 days in spring and autumn, once every 2 days in summer, and once every 7 days in winter. During the vigorous growth period, fertilize once every 10 days, applying light fertilizer frequently. Pinching: The plant needs to be pinched back 2 times during the whole growing season, preferably in June and August.
1. Preparing the soil
In the care methods and precautions for the firecracker flower, mastering soil preparation is fairly important. Grown in loose, fertile soil with good drainage, the plant will grow more vigorously. Therefore, for pot culture you can use garden soil, leaf mold and decomposed cake fertilizer, mixed in a ratio of 3:3:1.
2. Plenty of sunlight
If the firecracker flower is kept indoors and does not receive sunlight for a long time, the color of the flowers it produces will gradually become dull, and in severe cases it may even fail to bloom. Apart from the midday sun in summer, which needs to be properly blocked, it can receive direct sunlight in spring, autumn and winter.
3. Watering and fertilizing
The firecracker flower likes to grow in a warm, humid environment. In spring and autumn, water once every 3-4 days; in summer, water once every 2 days; in winter, water once every 7 days, and at the same time the amount of water should be appropriately reduced. For fertilizing, apply light fertilizer frequently. During the vigorous growth stage, topdress about once every 10 days with fully decomposed sesame-paste residue liquid fertilizer, or 0.3% compound fertilizer, which helps promote flower bud differentiation in the firecracker flower.
4. Pinching twice
Throughout the entire growth process of the firecracker flower, it needs to be pinched back 2 times. The 1st can be done in late June, and the 2nd in mid-August. When the branches of the firecracker flower grow to about 30cm, you can shape and bend them so that the plant stays compact, which helps the flowers form in a more even distribution.
5. Care precautions
1. Winter warmth
Since the firecracker flower likes warmth and fears cold, when winter arrives and the temperature drops below 15°C, it should be moved indoors for growing. If the indoor temperature is relatively low, put a plastic bag over the outside of the plant to keep it warm.
2. Regular misting
When the air is relatively dry, mist the leaves or the ground around the growing area at regular times to raise the air humidity, preventing the firecracker flower from dropping leaves due to the dry climate.
3. Rotate the pot weekly
When the firecracker flower is placed in the sun for growing, rotate the flower pot about once every 7 days. This helps the plant receive even light and prevents uneven growth on the two sides.
