The correct planting method and detailed steps for garlic sprouts
SummaryVariety selection: choose early-maturing varieties with strong disease resistance, high quality and high yield. Land preparation and fertilization: choose a plot with convenient irrigation and drainage, flat terrain, and loose, fertile soil for planting; per mu, apply an appropriate amount of decomposed organic fertilizer and three-element compound fertilizer, then deeply plow the land. Seed treatment: before sowing, soak the garlic cloves in clean water and a chemical agent for disinfection. Timely sowing: sow from mid-to-late September to early October. Field management: in the later growth stage, build small arched sheds and cover them with film to keep warm.
I. Variety selection
First, choose early-maturing varieties with strong disease and stress resistance, wide and soft leaves, a short growth period, high quality and high yield, such as Quanzhou meat garlic, Zhongnong No. 1, Zhongnong No. 3 and other varieties; high-quality varieties produce thick, sturdy and high-yielding garlic sprouts.
II. Land preparation and fertilization
1. Choose soil with good water retention, convenient irrigation and drainage, flat terrain, and loose, fertile texture for planting; generally, soil whose previous crop was a grain crop or a non-allium vegetable is preferable.
2. Before land preparation, per mu, apply about 1500 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer and about 50 kg of 45% three-element compound fertilizer, then deeply plow the land, level it and make beds; the suitable bed width is generally 100-120 cm, and the height is about 20 cm.
III. Seed treatment
1. Before sowing, select plump, round and neat garlic bulbs with no damage and no disease spots as seed garlic; before sowing, soak the garlic cloves in clean water for 12 hours, take them out, and soak them for 30 minutes in a 200-fold solution of 60% benziothiazolinone-imidacloprid suspension seed coating agent plus a 500-fold solution of 98% potassium dihydrogen phosphate.
2. Take them out and let them dry, then sow; this helps kill pathogens on the seed garlic, promotes uniform and strong seedlings, and thereby improves the disease resistance of the garlic sprouts.
IV. Timely sowing
1. The sowing time can be determined according to the market release time; generally, new garlic has a 3-month dormancy period, so sowing can be carried out successively from mid-to-late September to early October.
2. During this period, open furrows with a row spacing of 10-15 cm, insert the garlic cloves into the soil with a plant spacing of 3-5 cm and a depth of 2-3 cm, then cover with soil and press lightly; use about 200 kg of seed garlic per mu. After sowing is completed, water to keep moist; before the seed garlic emerges, cover with 1.4-meter-wide silver-black dual-color plastic film.
V. Field management
1. After the garlic emerges, promptly break the film to help promote vigorous growth of the garlic; generally, on the basis of sufficient base fertilizer and sufficient bottom water, there is no need to water or topdress in the early stage.
2. When the garlic sprouts grow to about 15 cm, topdress with about 10 kg of urea per mu in combination with watering; in the later stage, spray the leaves with 0.3% urea plus a 30 mg/kg gibberellin solution.
3. As the temperature continues to drop, in the later growth stage, generally around Frost's Descent, promptly build small arched sheds and add film covering to ensure vigorous growth of the garlic sprouts.
VI. Timely harvest
Generally, about 70 days after sowing, when the garlic sprouts have grown to a height of more than 30-50 cm, they can be harvested in batches at the appropriate time according to market conditions.
