When to Spray Cherry Trees: Morning or Afternoon, Inside Out or Outside In?
AbstractCherry trees need to be sprayed from before bud break in spring through the entire growing season. The growing season spray times are: June 10, late June, late July, and July-August. Spraying can generally be done around 4-6 pm. Precautions for spraying cherry trees: before bud break, spray with 5-degree Baumé lime sulfur; around June 10, spray with mancozeb and similar agents; in late June and late July, spray the leaves with 200-times lime double-strength Bordeaux mixture; in July-August, spray with pyrethroid and similar agents.
I. Timing of Spraying Cherry Trees
1. Cherry trees need to be sprayed from before bud break in spring through the entire growing season. The spraying time generally depends on the growth situation. Before the cherry trees bud, lime sulfur can be sprayed to prevent various fungal diseases and pests.
2. The cherry growing seasons are June 10, late June, late July, July-August, and before and after film covering for protected cultivation. During these periods, targeted spraying can be done to control diseases and pests.
3. Generally, during the high-temperature summer period, it is suitable to spray cherry trees with pesticide around 4-6 pm. This not only improves the control effect but also prevents the operator from suffering heatstroke.
4. The main leaf diseases of cherry are bacterial shot hole disease of peach and circular spot disease. They usually occur severely in the rainy months of July, August, and September, mainly damaging branches, leaves, young shoots, and fruit. If not controlled in time, they can easily cause defoliation of the entire tree and will affect flower bud formation, tree vigor development, and the flowering and fruit set of the cherry tree the following year.
5. Cherry trees have relatively few diseases and pests in spring, but if scale insects appear on the branches, then in late February, spray 1 application of 3-5 degree Baumé lime sulfur for control.
II. Precautions for Spraying Cherry Trees
1. Before the cherry trees bud, the whole tree can be sprayed once with 5-degree Baumé lime sulfur.
2. Around June 10, begin spraying disease-control agents. Generally, imported thiophanate-methyl, 50% carbendazim produced in Shanghai, mancozeb, Daconil M-45, etc. can be selected.
3. In late June and late July, spray the leaves once each time with 200-times lime double-strength Bordeaux mixture. Bordeaux mixture needs to be sprayed 2-3 times throughout the year, mainly to prevent red spider mites, white spider mites, green plant bugs, small leaf rollers, leaf miners, slug moths, etc. It can also simultaneously control slug moth Yantai large cherry leaf-eating pests.
4. For cherry trees under protected cultivation, generally spray once with 3-5 degree Baumé lime sulfur before and after film covering, and after harvest spray 1-2 times with 70% mancozeb 500-times solution or 50% carbendazim 700-times solution.
5. In July-August, spray 2-3 times with lime equal-strength 200-times Bordeaux mixture. If caterpillars and slug moths appear, spray pyrethroid-type agents during the larval stage for control.
