AbstractThe fertilization time for jujube trees is from May to September, and fertilizer can be applied during the flowering period. The fertilizer elements required by jujube trees differ at each growth stage. From budding to the flowering period, nitrogen is the main nutrient. From June to early August is the peak period of young fruit development and root development, when more nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer are needed. From fruit maturity to leaf fall, the tree body continuously accumulates nutrients, and at this time the demand for fertilizer increases significantly.

I. In which months is the fertilization time for jujube trees

1. The first is May, when flower bud differentiation and branch and leaf development continue at the same time, and nutrient consumption is high.

2. The second is the June flowering period, when flowering and fruit setting and young fruit development continue at the same time.

3. The third is the July-September fruit growth period, when fruit development and root development continue at the same time. The fruit needs to accumulate a small amount of nutrients, which is beneficial for ensuring expansion, development and maturity.

II. Fertilization methods for jujube trees

1. The fertilizer elements required by jujube trees differ at each growth stage. From budding to the flowering period, nitrogen is the main nutrient. From June to early August is the peak period of young fruit development and root development, when more nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer are needed. From fruit maturity to leaf fall, the tree body continuously accumulates nutrients, which is the foundation for the tree body to bud and grow leaves the next year. The fertilizer nutrient demand during this period increases significantly.

3. The dedicated controlled-release fertilizer ratios for jujube trees are 21-12-17, 18-12-21, etc. It can be applied once before spring budding as a base fertilizer. Three methods can be used: ring trench application, radial trench application and rotational trench application. The ring trench application method is to dig a ring-shaped fertilization trench 40-50cm deep and 30-40cm wide along the outer projection of the tree crown, then apply the fertilizer into the trench, and fill the fertilization trench level with soil.

4. The radial trench application method is to dig 6-8 radial trenches about 80cm from the trunk to the outer edge of the tree crown, with a depth and width of 24-45cm, shallow inside and deep outside, for continuous fertilization, while the rotational trench application method is to dig fertilization trenches on both sides of the outer edge of the tree crown, with a depth and width of 40cm each and a length depending on the size of the tree crown, applying fertilizer alternately on the east-west and north-south sides in alternate years.

5. Apply about 50kg of controlled-release fertilizer per mu. Jujube trees are deep-rooted crops. Fertilizer applied on the soil surface will be difficult to absorb, so only when applied at a suitable depth in the soil layer will it be absorbed and take effect. Jujube trees mainly absorb nutrients through their roots. The root system of jujube trees does not branch strongly and has low density. After cutting, the wounds are not prone to producing new roots. Therefore, when applying controlled-release fertilizer, pay attention not to cut the root system of the jujube tree when digging trenches.

6. Jujube trees prefer to grow in mountainous, hilly and plain areas below 1700 meters above sea level. Jujube trees are warm-loving fruit trees. The average annual temperature in producing areas is about 15°C. The suitable temperature during the budding period is 13-15°C, the suitable temperature during the branch and leaf extension period is 17°C, the suitable temperature during the flowering and fruit setting period is 22-25°C, and the suitable temperature during the fruit maturity period is 18-22°C.

7. Jujube trees have strong drought tolerance and waterlogging tolerance, but during the flowering period they need relatively high air humidity, otherwise it will be unfavorable for pollination and fruit setting. In addition, jujube trees have strong light preference and are relatively sensitive to light response, and they have strong adaptability to soil. They also have characteristics such as tolerance to barren soil and salt-alkali. However, jujube trees are afraid of wind, so when establishing an orchard, pay attention to keeping away from wind gaps.
