Suitable planting time, regions and cultivation techniques for ginger
Abstract Site selection and fertilization: choose soil with a deep plow layer, loose and fertile texture, and rich in organic matter, and apply rotted organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer as a base fertilizer. Seed selection and sprouting: choose 1-2 ginger pieces as seed, then soak them in a 500-fold dilution of 50% carbendazim for disinfection. Sowing time: the suitable sowing time is from the end of April to the beginning of May. Fertilization and watering: during the growing period, ammonium sulfate, cake fertilizer and compound fertilizer can be applied, and the soil moisture content should be kept at 75%-80%.
1. Site selection and fertilization
1. Soil with a deep plow layer, loose and fertile texture, and rich in organic matter can be selected for planting; the field plot is required to have relatively high terrain and convenient drainage and irrigation, and it can be rotated with rice and cruciferous and leguminous crops.
2. When preparing the land, sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied to ensure vigorous growth of ginger and help increase yield. For each mu, 2500-3000 kg of rotted organic fertilizer, or farmyard manure combined with 50 kg of compound fertilizer, can be applied as base fertilizer; spread it evenly on the soil, then deep plow to mix it evenly with the soil.
2. Seed selection and sprouting
1. Choose 1-2 plump, well-colored, fresh, firm ginger pieces free of disease as seed; a ginger piece weight of 50-70 grams is better. Disinfection and sprouting treatment can be carried out before sowing, which can increase the germination rate and promote uniform emergence. First, soak in a 500-fold dilution of 50% carbendazim for disinfection.
2. After disinfection, sun-dry for 1-2 days, and when the surface becomes shiny, pile them up for sprouting. Pile them together, then cover with rice straw, keep the temperature at about 20-25°C, and pay attention to moisture. Once the ginger sprouts are about 1 cm long, they can be sown.
3. Sowing time
1. The suitable sowing time is from the end of April to the beginning of May. When sowing, the drill method can be used, with a plant and row spacing of 40×30 cm and a furrow depth of 10-20 cm. Generally, the seeding rate per mu is 400-500 kg. When sowing, an appropriate amount of fertilizer can be applied as seed fertilizer to promote rapid sprouting of ginger.
2. Apply the fertilizer evenly into the furrows and mix it evenly with the soil. Water once before sowing to keep the soil moist, then place the ginger pieces flat in the furrows with the young buds facing upward, press them into the soil, cover with a 5 cm layer of fine soil, and after sowing rake the soil level.
4. Fertilization and watering
1. Ginger does not need topdressing during the germination stage. When 1-2 branches have sprouted and the seedlings have grown to 20-30 cm, topdressing should be carried out in time. Generally, 15-20 kg of ammonium sulfate can be applied per mu. The second topdressing is during the ginger tuber expansion stage, when a large amount of nutrients is needed for growth and expansion. For each mu, 75 kg of cake fertilizer and 50 kg of compound fertilizer can be applied, and fertilization can be combined with earthing up.
3. Watering should adhere to the principle of light watering and frequent irrigation, keeping soil moisture within 70%. During the high-temperature period in summer, soil moisture evaporates relatively greatly, so water in time to maintain moisture. This can be done in the morning or evening, avoiding the high-temperature period at noon. In rainy seasons, drain in time to prevent waterlogging. In autumn, ginger grows rapidly and needs a large amount of water. Generally, water once a week to keep the soil moisture content at 75%-80%.
