How to prune Pansy? Master the correct pruning method
Pansy flowers are brightly colored, generally sown in spring from March to April, and bloom from June to October. Today I will introduce the pruning method for Pansy.
1. Pruning method for Pansy
Pruning usually begins when the flower buds of Pansy have just differentiated. All the relatively weak and small flower buds should be cut off, keeping the flower buds on the main branches. In addition, after pruning, an appropriate amount of fertilizer can be applied, which helps Pansy bloom.
2. Growth habits of Pansy
Pansy is relatively cold-tolerant and prefers cool conditions and sunlight. It develops well under conditions of a daytime temperature of 15-25°C and a nighttime temperature of 3-5°C.
It dislikes high temperatures and waterlogging, is cold-tolerant and frost-resistant. If the daytime temperature remains continuously above 30°C, the flower buds disappear, or petals do not form; when the daytime temperature remains at 25°C, it only blooms but does not set seed, and even if it sets seed, the seeds develop poorly. The root system can tolerate a low temperature of -15°C, but below -5°C the leaves are damaged by frost and the edges turn yellow.
Day length has a greater effect on flowering than light intensity. Poor sunlight results in poor flowering. It prefers fertile, well-drained neutral loam or clay loam rich in organic matter, with a pH of 5.4~7.4. It is a perennial flower, often cultivated as a biennial.
3. Blooming period of Pansy
The normal blooming period of Pansy is from June to October, and its blooming period lasts 5 months, but with good cultivation, it can also bloom all year round. Therefore, the length of the blooming period is greatly related to the care method.
In courtyard landscaping, Pansy is often planted in flower beds as ground planting, and can be used for carpet flower beds, flower cluster beds, and is very suitable for planting in sheets, lines, or circular borders.
