The rubber tree, scientifically known as a plant of the genus Hevea in the family Euphorbiaceae, originated in the Amazon rainforest. China's dedicated national rubber planting areas are mainly distributed in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Yunnan and other regions; it can also be planted in Taiwan, China, with Hainan being the main rubber planting area. So, how many years can a rubber tree live?

1. How Many Years Can a Rubber Tree Live

A rubber tree can live about 60 years. It prefers high temperatures, high humidity, calm winds and fertile soil, and requires an annual average temperature of 26-27°C. It can grow and produce latex normally within the range of 20-30°C. It is not cold-tolerant and suffers frost damage below 5°C. It requires an annual average rainfall of 1150-2500 mm, but should not be planted in low-humidity areas.

2. Distribution of the Rubber Tree

The rubber tree originated in the western Marajo region of the Amazon River basin in Brazil, with Brazil as the main producer, followed by Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Venezuela and Bolivia. It is now distributed across more than 40 countries and regions in Asia, Africa, Oceania and Latin America. Countries with larger planting areas include: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, China, India, Vietnam, Nigeria, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Liberia and others; cultivation is most widespread and latex production is highest in the countries of Southeast Asia, with the planting area and latex output of 5 countries - Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India - accounting for 90% of the world's total. China's rubber planting areas are mainly distributed in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Yunnan; it can also be planted in Taiwan, China, with Hainan being the main rubber planting area.

Since as early as 1904, China has introduced it to Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Taiwan, China and other places for cultivation on flat land, terraces or hills below 500 m in elevation. However, in certain plateau areas, where rubber trees are planted at elevations of 700-1000 m, they can also grow well and produce latex normally if management is strengthened.
