What is the correct method for fertilizing garlic plots?
Garlic is a commonly used seasoning vegetable, and the edible parts of garlic are the garlic bulbs, garlic scapes, etc. So how should garlic plots be fertilized?
1. Growth habits of garlic
Garlic is a plant of the Liliaceae family and the Allium genus, native to the western plateau of Asia. Its main producing areas today are Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and other provinces. Long-term consumption of garlic can help prevent disease and maintain health.
Garlic prefers cool conditions and is relatively tolerant of low temperatures. It requires higher sunlight and high temperatures to promote flower bud and bulbils differentiation. Garlic has different requirements for soil moisture: the germination stage requires relatively high soil moisture to promote root and sprout development, while after the mother bulb recedes, the bulbil and flower bud differentiation stage requires relatively high soil moisture.
Garlic contains sulfur-containing organic compounds, polysaccharides, proteins, volatile oils, amino acids, vitamins, saponin compounds, flavonoid compounds, etc. It is a plant with relatively complex components.
2. How should garlic plots be fertilized?
1. Before sowing, apply base fertilizer, with a fertilizer composition of organic fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer, potassium fertilizer, etc.;
2. Apply additional fertilizer during the seedling stage to supplement insufficient base fertilizer;
3. Apply a second round of additional fertilizer during the growth period to make garlic grow more vigorously;
4. After harvesting the garlic scapes, apply fertilizer once more to ensure the garlic bulbs expand.
Among these, for fertilization during the garlic seedling stage and growth period, generally apply 15~20kg of compound fertilizer per 667 sq m; for fertilization at the garlic scape stage, generally apply 10~5kg of special compound fertilizer for garlic per 667 sq m, combined with irrigation.
