Roses: Fragrance and Color Combined - When Do They Usually Bloom? Plus Potted Planting Methods
The rose is a plant with both ornamental and medicinal value, and is relatively common in Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan and other places in China. There are many varieties of roses, and the flower colors are very rich, including white, yellow, red, and so on. So when do fragrance-and-color-combined roses generally bloom? What are the key points of potted planting methods?
1. When do fragrance-and-color-combined roses generally bloom?
Roses generally bloom from May to September each year. The flowering period is relatively long, lasting half a year, but they bloom only once a year. With changes in the environment and rising global temperatures, the blooming time of roses in some places is also earlier. In addition, the blooming times of different rose varieties also differ somewhat.
Among roses, white and pink are relatively common. They have high medicinal value and can also be used to make porridge to supplement nutrition.
2. Potted rose planting methods
1. Seed selection
For potted roses, it is more suitable to choose some dwarf, fragrant varieties. This way, they are easier to prune after planting and have stronger ornamental value. If placed indoors or on a balcony, they can also give off a faint, fresh fragrance.
2. Soil preparation
For potted roses, the requirements for soil are somewhat higher. You should choose nutrient soil with good air permeability, good drainage, and strong looseness. If you do not know how to prepare it yourself, you can buy it from a professional place. For the pot, it is best to choose ceramic or clay pots, which have stronger air permeability. Do not choose plastic pots.
3. Watering key points
Watering potted roses should be determined according to their growth conditions and the season. In early spring, the growth rate is relatively fast, so appropriately increase the amount of watering. In summer, when temperatures are high and water evaporates quickly, roses are in a dormant period, so be sure to water once in the morning and once in the evening. When watering, do not pour water down from above the leaves, as this can easily cause disease. In winter, when temperatures are low, the pot soil only needs to be moist and slightly dry. There is no need to water too much, otherwise root rot may occur.
4. Fertilization key points
Roses are fertilizer-loving plants. In addition to mixing organic fertilizer into the soil as a base fertilizer, foliar fertilizer is also needed once every half month. Only in this way can leaf growth be promoted and tender green color maintained. In the early stage of sprouting in early spring, a relatively concentrated liquid fertilizer can be applied once. Do not apply extra fertilizer during the flowering period. Wait until the roses fade, then fertilize once more.
5. Pruning
In order to maintain the beauty of potted roses, pruning should be carried out after each flowering period ends. Prune away spent flowers, withered leaves, and so on. This can promote the growth of the rose's main stem and produce more flowers.
6. Pest and disease control
Potted roses are very prone to black spot disease, powdery mildew, and rust disease, so pay attention to observing the condition of rose leaves in normal times, especially the underside of the leaves, to see whether there is invasion by pathogens or pests. Once symptoms similar to pests or diseases appear, use medication promptly for treatment.
