Is A-choy the leaf of lettuce? One article clarifies the relationship between the two
In daily life, many people confuse A-choy with celtuce leaves and cannot really tell them apart. So, is A-choy the leaf of lettuce? Let's take a look below.
A-choy is not lettuce leaf. The surface of A-choy leaves is smooth, while the surface of lettuce leaves is uneven. However, A-choy belongs to a variety of leaf lettuce——romaine lettuce.
Differences between A-choy and celtuce leaves
1. In terms of appearance, A-choy and celtuce leaves are still quite different. A-choy leaves are relatively slender and have a relatively smooth surface, while celtuce leaves are relatively broad, and many veins protrude from the surface, making them relatively uneven, and celtuce leaves are not as long as A-choy.
2. Although A-choy and celtuce leaves are both plants of the genus Lactuca, A-choy is a variety of leaf lettuce—romaine lettuce, and its nutritional value is higher than that of stem lettuce; while celtuce leaves are the leaves of stem lettuce, so celtuce leaves are only one component of stem lettuce.
3. A-choy tastes relatively delicate and crisp, while celtuce leaves do not taste as refreshing and may be a bit astringent, with a taste not as good as A-choy.
4. A-choy and celtuce leaves also differ in nutritional value. A-choy contains relatively more dietary fiber and vitamins, and has a good effect on lubricating the intestines, promoting bowel movements, detoxifying, and beautifying the skin; while celtuce leaves contain a large amount of carotene, which is very beneficial for relieving eye fatigue and preventing night blindness.
