The yuanbao flower, also known as zi bao, is a small-growing succulent plant named for its resemblance to a yuanbao (gold ingot). So how do you propagate the yuanbao flower?

1. How to propagate the yuanbao flower?

1. Sowing

Sowing propagation is usually carried out in spring; a temperature of 19-24 degrees Celsius favors germination. Generally, germination occurs about 10 days after sowing. During the germination period, keep the potting soil in a relatively dry state. The seedlings grow rather slowly, and after half a year of growth they can be transplanted into pots.

2. Leaf cuttings

For leaf cutting propagation, choose the growing season. Remove leaves that are growing well and free of pests and diseases, and place them in a ventilated, shady spot to dry. Once the wounds have dried, insert them into a prepared cutting bed. They usually take root in about 2-3 weeks, and once rooted they can be transplanted into pots.

3. Division

Division can be carried out in all seasons except summer. First dig up the small offsets that have tillered out around each zi bao plant, roots and all, and cut the underground stem connecting them to the mother plant, then they can be planted in place.

2. How to care for the yuanbao flower?

1. Soil: It has fairly high requirements for soil and prefers soil with good drainage. This kind of soil does not hold water, which is good for growth. You can also make it yourself by mixing soft soil with some wood shavings.

2. Watering: It rather likes moisture. Water in moderation, not too much. When the surface of its soil is dry, you can water it, but do not let water accumulate at the bottom of the pot.

3. Fertilizing: It likes fertilizer and can be fertilized in all four seasons, though in winter it should be reduced accordingly. At other times, fertilizing once a month is enough.

4. Light: It rather likes light. If kept indoors, place it in a bright spot so it receives light, but be sure to remember not to put it under strong light, to avoid the leaves being sunburned by too-intense light.
