How Does Rapeseed Spread Its Seeds? Principles and Methods Explained
Every year from March to April, rapeseed flowers bloom all over the hillsides, looking very beautiful, and once the flowers fade, plump seeds grow. So how does rapeseed spread its seeds? And how should it be planted?
1. How does rapeseed spread its seeds
The rapeseed fruit is a silique, which splits open when mature and disperses by its own elastic force. Rapeseed seeds themselves have weight, and after maturity the fruit or seeds fall directly to the ground due to gravity. Of course, artificially planted rapeseed can be spread by human hands.
2. How to plant rapeseed
1. Seed selection
According to the local cultivation system and climatic conditions, and in combination with the local soil fertility level and production situation, choose varieties with strong stress resistance and good yield performance.
2. Site selection and land preparation
The seedbed should be chosen as a plot that is well ventilated and sunny, with fertile and loose soil, and close to a water source, and the land should be prepared carefully. Seedbed preparation should achieve “level”, “fine” and “firm” conditions.
3. Sowing
Sow the seeds evenly into the soil, cover with a layer of soil, and water an appropriate amount. Generally, the suitable germination temperature requires an average daily temperature of 16-22°C, and the emergence of seedling leaves also requires above 10-15°C to proceed smoothly. In addition, it is necessary to ensure at least 40-50 days of effective growth period after transplanting before entering overwintering.
4. Transplanting
When the seedlings are 30-35 days old, have 5-6 green leaves, and roots 5-6 mm thick, they can be transplanted into the field. When transplanting, transplant at a row spacing of 50cm×20cm, planting about 7000 plants per mu, covering soil while transplanting, and water thoroughly with settling water immediately after transplanting; 3 days after transplanting rapeseed, check for gaps and fill in missing seedlings.
