How to Treat Geranium Diseases? Practical Control Methods Shared
Geranium is a shrubby flowering plant, also known as zonal geranium, fish geranium, and horse balm geranium, among other names. During its growth, geraniums may develop diseases, so how do you treat geranium diseases?
Geranium diseases include bacterial leaf spot, rust disease, and gray mold. They can be controlled with agents such as Bordeaux mixture, 40% oxadixyl wettable powder, 80% zineb wettable powder, and 50% procymidone wettable powder.
1. Bacterial leaf spot
This is a disease in which many water-soaked small spots first appear on the underside of the leaves, and then the veins and petioles gradually turn brown. In milder cases, Bordeaux mixture can be sprayed, generally once every 10-15 days.
To prevent bacterial leaf spot, do not use plants that have been infected with leaf spot for daily cuttings, and even more importantly, do not use their soil. Most of the pathogens reside in the soil and will cause the cuttings to become infected.
In addition, care should be strengthened by growing them in a well-ventilated place with good light, and watering should not be excessive so as to avoid waterlogged soil.
2. Rust disease
This is a disease whose symptoms are reddish-brown blister spots appearing on the leaves, petioles, and stems. In severe cases, the leaves lose their green color and drop off. When the disease occurs, remove the diseased leaves promptly, or even pull out the diseased plants and burn them thoroughly.
At the early stage of the disease, promptly spray 15% triadimefon wettable powder at 1000 times dilution, or 40% oxadixyl wettable powder at 4000 times dilution, or 80% zineb wettable powder at 500-700 times dilution, or 30% triflumizole wettable powder at 2000 times dilution, or 20% carboxin emulsifiable concentrate at 500 times dilution, or 25% propiconazole emulsifiable concentrate at 3000 times dilution, or 40% flusilazole emulsifiable concentrate at 9000-10000 times dilution. Spray once every 10-15 days, for 3-4 consecutive sprays.
3. Gray mold
This is a disease that mainly causes flower blight, leaf spots, and rotting of cuttings. At the early stage of the disease, you can choose 50% procymidone wettable powder at 2000 times dilution, or 50% iprodione wettable powder at 1500 times dilution, or 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 800-1000 times dilution for foliar spraying. Spray once every two weeks, for 3-4 consecutive sprays.
