How to Propagate Clivia? An Introduction to Common Methods
The Chinese scientific name of Junzhilan is Clivia (Clivia miniata), an ornamental flower of the Amaryllidaceae family and the Clivia genus, so how do you propagate Junzhilan?
1. Growth Habits of Junzhilan
Junzhilan is also called large-flowered Clivia, large-leaved Lycoris, sword-leaved Lycoris, Damulan, and so on. In China it is often grown in greenhouses in pots for ornamental purposes, and Junzhilan is the city flower of Changchun.
Junzhilan is native to the tropical regions of southern Africa. It is a plant that fears both heat and cold, prefers a semi-shaded and humid environment, and dreads strong direct sunlight. Its optimal growing temperature is between 18-28°C.
Under normal conditions, Clivia blooms once a year, generally once it has more than twelve leaves. If the indoor growing temperature is suitable, it can bloom around the Spring Festival.
2. How to Propagate Junzhilan?
1. Soil: Choose soil rich in humus, slightly acidic, and with good air permeability for cultivation;
2. Light: Junzhilan does not have high light requirements; simply place it in a spot with scattered light for growing;
3. Watering: Junzhilan is fairly drought-tolerant, but in hot summers it still needs more watering, otherwise the roots and leaves of Junzhilan will be damaged;
4. Fertilizing: Simply fertilize reasonably according to the growth conditions of Junzhilan.
3. Precautions for Growing Junzhilan
1. After Junzhilan blooms, the flowering period can be extended by appropriately lowering the temperature, improving ventilation, and reducing light;
2. Suitable temperature has an obvious effect on the quality of blooming. If the temperature is too high, root hairs exist for an extremely short time, and their ability to absorb water and nutrients declines greatly, so be sure to pay attention to temperature when growing it.
