1. Pruning method for Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis generally uses the three-fork, nine-tip pruning method, which means pruning to produce three main branches, with three small branches kept on each main branch. This kind of pruning ensures that every branch and leaf can receive sunlight, making it grow more vigorously.

1. The first pruning is best done from mid-March to early May. When pruning, cut off overly dense branches and lateral buds, and keep the robustly growing branches.

2. The second pruning should be done after the flowers fade, cutting off the spent flowers to reduce the consumption of nutrients by the plant.

3. The third pruning should be done from late October to early November, removing branches with pests or disease, dead branches, and leggy branches, etc. Some long branches can be appropriately shortened.

4. When pruning Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, pay attention to making the cuts smooth. Smooth cuts can promote rapid healing of the wound and reduce evaporation. When pruning, make sure the base of the plant is pruned cleanly.
