What pesticides are good for controlling cherry pests and diseases?
When cherry is mentioned, everyone is surely familiar with it. It is not only sweet and highly nutritious, but also can be eaten in many ways, and is very popular among people. It is grown in many regions, so during cultivation what pesticides are used for cherry?
1. Brown spot disease
Also known as leaf shot hole disease. It is the most important leaf disease of sweet cherry.
Symptoms: In the early stage of the disease, small purple spots the size of a needle head form, then expand, and some join with each other to form round brown lesions, on which small black dots appear, namely conidial masses and perithecia. Finally, the lesions shrink, dry up, and fall off to form holes. In severe cases, it can cause early defoliation, weaken tree vigor, and lead to reduced yield.
Control method: Sweep up fallen leaves and eliminate overwintering pathogens. Strengthen integrated management, improve site conditions, enhance tree vigor, and increase the disease resistance of the tree. Respectively, from after flower drop to before fruit harvest, spray 1-2 times with 70% mancozeb 600-fold solution or 75% chlorothalonil 500-800-fold solution. After fruit harvest, spray 2-3 times with 200-240-fold Bordeaux mixture of the equal-strength formula.
2. Leaf spot disease
Symptoms: This disease mainly harms cherry leaves. On affected leaves, brown or purple nearly round necrotic lesions form between the veins, and pink mold is produced on the underside of the leaves. When the lesions merge, they can cause most of the leaf to die and lead to defoliation. Sometimes petioles and fruit can also be affected, producing brown spots.
Control method: Refer to cherry brown spot disease.
3. Gummosis
Symptoms:
From the beginning of bud break, gum exudes from wounds on branches and trunks and from dead corky tissue at branch forks. After gummosis, the diseased part swells slightly, the cortex and xylem become brown and rot, and other miscellaneous fungi grow saprophytically, causing tree vigor to decline day by day, and in severe cases the branches and trunks die.
Control method:
Apply more organic fertilizer to prevent drought, waterlogging, and freezing injury; keep the tree vigorous and improve tree resistance; whitewash the trunk to prevent sunscald; strengthen pest and disease control, especially control of trunk-boring pests, reduce wounds during pruning, and avoid mechanical injury; for branches and trunks that have already developed the disease, scrape and treat them promptly and thoroughly, and apply a protective agent made by mixing 10 parts quicklime, 1 part lime sulfur mixture, 2 parts salt, and 0.3 part vegetable oil with water.
4. Pests
The main pests harming cherry include peach red-necked longhorn beetle, white peach scale, and others. For their control methods, refer to pest control for peach.
For the control of cherry pests and diseases in protected cultivation, good control should be carried out both in open fields and inside protected areas. Before bud break after the greenhouse is covered with plastic film, spray 1 time with 3-5 degrees Baumé lime sulfur mixture to prevent various diseases. After fruit harvest and removal of the greenhouse film, spray 1 time with 500-600-fold 70% mancozeb or 700-fold 50% carbendazim.
