Osmanthus is a plant with a pleasant fragrance. If it is planted in the ground, we do not need to prune it; the taller and bigger it grows, the better. If it is potted, it needs some pruning to look good. Below is an introduction to the pruning methods for potted osmanthus.

1. Main trunk pruning

A potted osmanthus that grows too tall does not look good, so the main trunk can be pruned. Generally speaking, a potted osmanthus with good ornamental effect will not exceed 80 cm. We can cut off the part above directly at the height we need on the main trunk.

2. Branch pruning

If the canopy is relatively sparse, the larger branches can be cut off, leaving some of the smaller branches to remain. If the branches are all rather thin and small, some branches that are beneficial to the shape can be kept, and some poor branches can be cut off.

3. Later pruning

During the vigorous growth period of osmanthus, cut off poorly developed, leggy, and diseased branches and leaves, and also cut off the spent flowers. For branches that grow too densely, thin them out appropriately to increase the plant's light penetration.

4. Disinfection treatment

Before pruning osmanthus, disinfect the tools used for pruning; after pruning osmanthus, disinfect the wounds, and also do a good job of post-pruning care so that it can resume growth.
