What is the best way to handle a bowl lotus after winter?
The bowl lotus is a small type of lotus species, mostly growing in water, and it blooms pink flowers in June, very beautiful, many people like to keep a pot at home, so how to handle a bowl lotus after winter?
1. Cold protection and warmth
After the bowl lotus overwinters, the outdoor temperature is still very low. If it is moved outdoors, the large temperature difference will stimulate the plant and affect its growth, so move the potted bowl lotus indoors for care, placing it in a ventilated spot. The bowl lotus is rather delicate, so be sure to avoid drafty wind. Keeping the room temperature at around 10°C is enough. If it drops below 5°C, put a bag over the plant for warmth, and once the temperature rises again, just uncover it.
2. Proper watering
Generally during the dormant period the bowl lotus does not have high water requirements, but the potting soil must not be dry either; if it is too dry, the plant is prone to rotting. How the bowl lotus safely overwinters, watering is a very important part. So in winter the pot must also be watered sufficiently, with the flower pot in a full-water state, and the flower pot must be checked frequently for lack of water.
3. Light requirements
The bowl lotus likes sufficient light, and after overwintering there may not be sun, so try to place it in a bright spot, preferably one with light. If you are worried about the plant being harmed by frozen soil, it is best to keep it indoors in a place with fairly sufficient light for care. When the weather is good and the temperature is high, the potted bowl lotus can be moved out to bask in the sun.
4. Fertilization requirements
If the current year's bowl lotus has rather thin stems, small flowers, pale color, and the plant is fairly weak, you can give it one appropriate winter fertilization. You can use potassium dihydrogen phosphate diluted and poured on as irrigation; if you do not have this kind of fertilizer, you can add crushed eggshells to the flower pot, or water chestnut slices will also do, which can make the plant's root system grow more robust.
