Is the Tunisian pomegranate genetically modified?

Soft-seeded pomegranate is not a genetically modified food.

Tunisian No. 2 soft-seeded pomegranate is the second-generation soft-seeded pomegranate bred by researchers from the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences after more than 20 years of trials and observation of the Tunisian soft-seeded pomegranate introduced to China from the country of Tunisia in 1986 (awarded a provincial scientific and technological achievement certificate: 9412004Y0696).

How many years after planting does the Tunisian pomegranate bear fruit?

1. After planting, it can partially bear fruit in 2 years, and after 3 years it can bear fruit 100%; the yield per mu can reach 550-1000 kg after 3 years, and can reach more than 2000 kg per mu after 5 years. This variety is drought-resistant, disease-resistant, does not crack fruit, has a wide range of adaptability, is not strict about soil, and can be planted in plains, hills, and shallow mountains.

What are the planting techniques for Tunisian pomegranate?

The Tunisian pomegranate has excellent overall traits. Its main characteristics are large fruit, thin skin, bright red fruit surface, sweet taste, soft seeds, early maturity, and easy management. It is currently the main recommended pomegranate variety.

(1) Planting density

The planting density is determined according to soil fertility. For fields with poor soil fertility, use 2.5 m × 3 m, planting 90 plants per mu; for fields with good soil fertility, use 3 m × 3.5 m, planting 55 plants per mu.

(2) Planting method

1. Seedling selection and transplanting: transplant large seedlings, strong seedlings, and seedlings of pure variety.

2. Transplanting time and method: Pomegranate can be planted in all four seasons, and planting in late winter and early spring (around the Spring Festival) is best. When planting, cut overly long roots shorter, dig a transplanting hole in the middle of the tea-tray-shaped backfilled soil large enough to accommodate the root system, place the seedling in it, bury the roots deeply, then fill with soil and gently lift the seedling upward, pressing the soil firmly with your foot while filling.
