Wampee is one of the fruits of southern China. Besides being eaten, the seeds of wampee can also be used for planting, so how do you grow wampee from seed?

1. Growing habits of wampee

Wampee is a plant of the genus Clausena in the Rutaceae family, and it likes a warm, humid environment with plenty of sunlight. It has no strict requirements for soil. It is best grown in loose, fertile loam.

Wampee likes moisture and fears waterlogging, so water management should be strengthened. For irrigation, during the shoot-flushing period, the flowering and fruit-setting period, and the fruit enlargement period, if drought occurs, water should be applied in time; generally, irrigation in the evening or early morning when the soil temperature is lower is best. For drainage, drain water promptly during the rainy season to prevent water accumulation.

2. How do you grow wampee from seed?

Wash the wampee seeds clean and soak them for about 3 days, then choose complete, plump wampee seeds and plant them in a prepared container. The two ends of a wampee seed are different: one end is dark and the other is light. When planting, the dark end should face up. After planting, cover with a layer of non-woven fabric, then spray some water and wait for the wampee seeds to germinate.

3. Pest and disease control of wampee

The main pests and diseases of wampee include anthracnose, sooty mold, aphids, scale insects, leafminers, red spider mites, and Lawana imitata.

The following measures can be used for control:

1. Strengthen orchard management, enhance tree vigor; prevent drought and drain waterlogging, do a good job of shaping and pruning, and maintain ventilation and light penetration; clean the orchard in winter.

2. Use silver-gray film to repel aphids, yellow sticky traps to trap and kill insects, and so on.

3. Do a good job of pest and disease forecasting, apply pesticides at the right time, alternate pesticides, and choose pesticides that are highly effective, low in toxicity, and low in residue.
