Anemone tomentosa and Anemone chinensis are both perennial herbaceous plants of the Ranunculaceae family, so what is the difference between the two?

1. What is the difference between Anemone tomentosa and Anemone chinensis?

1. Different flower color

Anemone tomentosa has 5 sepals, pale pink or white, obovate, broadly obovate or broadly elliptic.

Anemone chinensis: sepals blue-purple, oblong-ovate, 2.8-4.4 cm long, 0.9-2 cm wide, densely pubescent on the back.

2. Different place of origin

Anemone tomentosa is distributed in western Sichuan (north of Kangding, at an altitude of 1900-3400 m) and northeastern Sichuan (1200-2100 m), eastern Qinghai (1850-2500 m), Gansu, Shaanxi, western Hubei (Junxian, Xingshan, 2350 m), western Henan, Shanxi (1200-1800 m), and western Hebei (Neiqiu, Fuping, 700-800 m). It grows on mountain grassy slopes or sunny roadsides.

Anemone chinensis is distributed in China in Sichuan (Baoxing, at an altitude of 3200 m), northern Hubei, Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, southern Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Shandong, Hebei (at an altitude of 200-1900 m), Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang. It grows in plains and low mountain slopes among grass, at forest edges, or on dry and stony slopes. It is also distributed in Korea and the Far East region of the Soviet Union.

3. Different habits

Anemone tomentosa likes direct sunlight and can also flower well under half-day light conditions. It is drought-tolerant, afraid of waterlogging, cold-tolerant, and can overwinter in the open field.

Anemone chinensis likes a cool and dry climate. It is cold-tolerant, drought-tolerant, and not tolerant of high temperatures.

4. Different medicinal effects

Anemone tomentosa is mainly used to resolve phlegm, dissipate blood stasis, treat malaria, and kill insects. It treats sores, boils, and carbuncles, stubborn tinea, favus, malaria, dysentery, cough and asthma due to overexertion, infantile malnutrition, and traumatic injuries.

Anemone chinensis treats bleeding symptoms such as hemorrhoids. It treats heat-toxin bloody dysentery, warm malaria with chills and fever, epistaxis, and bloody hemorrhoids.
