How Many Years Does It Take for Longan Tree Seedlings to Bear Fruit?
Longan is a common fruit in daily life. Its appearance is very similar to that of guiyuan, and its nutritional value is very high, so it is very popular among people. It is currently planted in most areas, so how many years does it take for longan tree seedlings to bear fruit?
1. How many years does it take for longan tree seedlings to bear fruit?
Longan tree seedlings need 3-4 years after planting before they bear fruit. However, in order to achieve a high fruit yield later, the flowers are generally removed when the tree blooms in the third year. After successful planting, the seedlings can generally live for several decades, and some can live for 200 years.
2. How do you grow longan as a potted plant?
1. Buy ripe longan and share it with family or friends. Keep the remaining longan seeds, collect them, and use them as seeds for the potted plant.
2. Remove the pulp and white soft tissue near the sprouting point of the longan seeds completely, then wash them. The longan seeds look like shiny black eyeballs one by one.
3. Put them in a basin of water to soak, and the water surface should cover the longan seeds. Then change the water every day and remove impurities. After soaking continuously like this for 4 to 6 days, the outer shell of the longan seeds will crack slightly, and you can see sprouting points vaguely emerging. At this point, they can be planted. After the longan seeds crack, they can be soaked for another two or three days to speed up the emergence of new buds.
4. Choose a pot with no hole at the bottom, fill it with potting soil to about 80% full, and spray some water on the surface until it feels moist. Choose longan seeds with similar degrees of cracking and arrange them densely on top, then finally sprinkle potting soil to fill the gaps between them.
5. Use small pebbles to spread a thin layer over the longan seeds, press lightly with the palm of your hand, and then spray water two or three times back and forth. After that, spray water once every day.
In general, a longan potted plant grown by someone who knows how to grow it may live for more than 5 years, but for someone who does not know how to grow it, it is hard to say. Usually, watering should not be too wet. Water thoroughly only when the surface soil looks whitish or has cracks. If it feels moist, do not water even a drop. Repot once a year. Normally, loosen the potting soil properly once every one and a half months. In April-May, bury a small amount of compound fertilizer, and in August-September, apply compound fertilizer once more. In summer at noon, it is best not to let it be exposed to the sun. If these things are done well, the longan potted plant may live for more than 5 years.
