Chili peppers are green when immature and turn red, orange, or purplish-red when ripe, with a spicy taste. Its seeds are flat and kidney-shaped, pale yellow. Do you know when and how to plant chili seeds?

1. When to Sow Chili Seeds

Chili seeds are generally sown in spring from November to February, and in autumn they are generally sown in August.

2. How to Plant Chili Seeds

1. Choose the seeds

First, choose suitable chili seeds, trying to select high-quality seeds. You can use ones left over from before, or buy new seeds from the market. Note that seeds are valid for two years; if too much time has passed, they are no longer suitable for planting and the chance of survival is relatively small.

2. Germination treatment

First, treat the seeds by soaking the selected seeds in warm water for about 6-8 hours, which helps promote water absorption and swelling. Prepare a clean paper towel, moisten it with water to keep it damp, place the seeds evenly on it, and cover the outside with a layer of plastic wrap to keep them warm and moist, which can promote seed germination. Maintain a certain temperature around them, preferably between 25-30°C.

3. Prepare the pot and soil

Prepare a moderately sized flower pot and fill it with nutrient soil to ensure there are sufficient nutrients to supply growth.

4. Planting

Choose around April each year for planting. After the seeds have sprouted, you can sow them into the flower pot, burying them about 3-5cm deep, and observe changes in the soil to decide when to water. They will sprout in about 3-5 days, and once the plant grows true leaves, it can be transplanted.

Chili peppers are an important vegetable and seasoning. The seed oil is edible, and the fruit has insect-repelling and sweat-inducing effects.
