How to Plant Grape Seeds So They Germinate: A Detailed Guide to the Planting Method
Grapes are a famous fruit; they can be eaten fresh or made into raisins, and they can also be used to make wine. They also have extremely high medicinal value and have become an important worldwide commodity serving as both nutrition and medicine. So how do you plant grape seeds so they germinate?
1. Seed selection
First, select mature, robust grape seeds, then remove the impurities on the surface, rinse them with clean water, scoop them out, and drain off the water.
2. Soaking treatment
Gently squeeze the seeds with your hand and pick out the ones that feel hard, then soak them in warm water for one day. Once the seed coats have softened, place them in a warm, moist environment and increase air circulation.
3. Sowing
Mix sand, small stones and soil in a ratio of 3:2:2. Scatter the soaked seeds separately in the soil, then cover the surface with a thin layer of soil, and finally cover it with wet sphagnum moss.
4. Cold storage management
Then put the seeds through cold storage treatment; it is best to keep the temperature at around 12 degrees. In midsummer, they can be placed in a cool cellar or in a refrigerator; in severe winter when the temperature is too low, it is best to keep them indoors. Cold-store them for about 2 to 3 months and simply increase the air circulation around them.
5. Light treatment
Finally, place the cold-stored seeds in a warm environment and water them appropriately, keeping the soil moist at all times. Ensure 5 to 6 hours of light each day; in summer, shade them appropriately, and remember never to expose them to strong sunlight for long periods, so the plants are not damaged and stop growing.
6. Fertilizer and water management
Apply a diluted solution of decomposed organic fertilizer once a month, water promptly, loosen the soil at the right time, and remove impurities from the soil surface from time to time. After about one month, they will germinate and take root.
Grapes originated in western Asia and are cultivated all over the world.
