How to plant potted mint seeds? Sowing methods and care tips
Mint, commonly known as “Yindan grass”, is an aromatic crop with special economic value. Many people like to keep a few pots of it at home. So how do you plant potted mint seeds?
Germination
First soak the seeds in warm water at 40°C for about 5 hours, then place them in a high-temperature environment for germination treatment.
Soil
For mint cultivation, choose a loose, fertile sandy soil with good drainage.
Water
Growing mint requires plenty of water. Hydroponics is also possible, but soil cultivation will produce better growth. If you have not watered it for a few days and the flower pot becomes extremely dry, even the leaves withered from dryness, do not worry. As long as the roots are still alive, water it again and it will quickly recover its former vitality.
Temperature
The growing temperature should preferably be kept at 20-30°C, and mint has strong cold tolerance, able to withstand low temperatures of -15°C.
Light
Mint naturally likes sunlight, so make sure it gets sufficient light. This can effectively ensure normal flowering of mint and promote the accumulation of mint oil and menthol.
Regular pruning
Mint is very tough; prune it often and use its leaves to make tea or for whatever else, and it will be fine. The more you prune, the more lush it grows. Regularly loosen the soil, or add some soil, or apply fertilizer, and it will grow faster. Be sure to place it in a ventilated and airy spot on the balcony.
