What is the difference between butachlor and pretilachlor?
Butachlor and pretilachlor are both relatively common chloroacetamide herbicides on the market, and many people do not know how to choose between them when controlling weeds. Below, let us look at the difference between butachlor and pretilachlor.
1. Introduction to butachlor
Butachlor is a selective pre-emergence herbicide. It is mainly used in direct-seeded or transplanted rice fields to control annual grassy weeds and certain broadleaf weeds. It is also selective toward wheat, barley, sugar beet, cotton, peanut and Chinese cabbage crops. The effective dose is 1.0-4.5 kg per hectare (active ingredient). It is generally applied as a pre-emergence soil surface treatment, and can also be applied post-emergence in paddy fields; it is an important variety of rice field herbicide.
When butachlor is applied in dry fields, it must be applied under moist soil conditions. It can control annual grassy weeds and some dicotyledonous weeds such as barnyardgrass, crabgrass, foxtail, Eleocharis, Monochoria vaginalis, Equisetum ramosissimum and Cyperus difformis. It is suitable for weed control in fields of Chinese cabbage, beans, radish, cabbage, solanaceous vegetables and spinach.
2. Introduction to pretilachlor
Pretilachlor is a pre-emergence herbicide, mainly used to control grassy weeds. The product belongs to the 2-chloroacetanilide herbicide class and is a cell division inhibitor; when used for soil treatment, it can control barnyardgrass, Cyperus difformis, Eleocharis, Monochoria vaginalis, Alisma canaliculatum and others in rice fields. It is usually used 3-5 d before transplanting. When applied alone, this product has relatively poor selectivity for wet direct-seeded rice; when used together with fenclorim, it has excellent selectivity for direct-seeded rice. If a mixture of this product and fenclorim is used at 600+200 gai/ha, the effects on Monochoria vaginalis, Cyperus difformis, Sphenoclea zeylanica and Fimbristylis are all above 90%, while the control effect on Leptochloa chinensis reaches 100%.
Pretilachlor is suitable for rice to control annual grassy and broadleaf weeds such as barnyardgrass, Echinochloa colonum, Leptochloa chinensis, goosegrass, Eleocharis, Alisma canaliculatum, Ammannia baccifera, Cyperus difformis, Cyperus iria, Ludwigia prostrata and Monochoria vaginalis.
