How to Plant Loquat Seeds? How to Grow Freshly Eaten Loquat Seeds
In summer, many farmers pick their homegrown loquats to sell, as they taste good and are cheap. Every time people finish eating them, they leave behind the loquat seeds. Do you know how to plant freshly eaten loquat seeds? Let's take a look together!
1. How to Plant Freshly Eaten Loquat Seeds
To plant freshly eaten loquat seeds, first wash them, then soak them in water until they sprout. During the soaking period, change the water once a day. After they sprout, sow them in the soil. Water them with an appropriate amount every day and provide proper care.
2. Can Loquat Seeds Be Eaten?
Loquat seeds, that is, loquat pits, are mildly toxic and should not be eaten raw casually.
When loquat pits are eaten raw, the cyanogenic glycosides are hydrolyzed by saliva during chewing, releasing the highly toxic substance hydrocyanic acid. Hydrocyanic acid is a poison and can easily cause poisoning in humans. After being absorbed, hydrocyanic acid combines with the iron-containing respiratory enzymes in tissue cells, leading to oxygen deprivation, which in turn impairs the functions of the respiratory and vasomotor centers. In severe cases, it can even cause respiratory paralysis and death.
However, loquat pits contain cyanogenic glycosides and can be used as medicine. They are bitter in taste and neutral in nature, and enter the lung and stomach meridians; their effects of resolving phlegm, relieving cough, harmonizing the stomach, and descending rebellious qi are relatively strong.
