How to Plant Ponkan Seeds? A Detailed Guide to the Planting Method
Ponkan is a thirst-quenching, sweet-and-sour fruit that is very popular in daily life. So do you know how to plant ponkan seeds? Let's take a look below.
1. Soil
Ponkan is a fruit with a well-developed root system, and the tree is not small either, so the soil for planting ponkan is best deep, fertile, loose and soft, and the soil pH should also be kept at around 6. The ponkan orchard site should be chosen in a place with convenient transportation, close to a water source and with good drainage. Remember that a ponkan orchard must not be established on a steep slope. Ponkan is generally planted in early spring in February or in October each year.
2. Field Planting
After choosing the site, the land preparation work should be done well. Ponkan has a relatively large fertilizer requirement, so we should deep-plow the soil and enlarge the planting holes. Also apply sufficient base fertilizer to mature the soil and improve soil fertility. After land preparation, dig the planting holes and control the specifications of the planting holes. When planting, the roots of the sapling should be properly pruned, then spread flat into the planting hole; the roots must not be squeezed. Then, while filling the soil, slowly lift the seedling, and gently press it firm with your foot so that the roots are in full contact with the soil. After planting, water in time, make a tree basin, and cover with plastic film to improve the soil's water and fertilizer retention.
3. Fertilizer and Water
When fertilizing ponkan, the proportion of nutrients in the fertilizer should be reasonably allocated, and more organic fertilizer should be applied. Usually, everyone should also fertilize regularly according to the actual growth of the ponkan. At the same time, the water requirement of ponkan is also very large, so while fertilizing, it is also necessary to water reasonably. Of course, if the rainy season comes, remember to drain water in time.
4. Pruning
Training and pruning work has different methods at each growth stage of ponkan, and it is also work that must be done consistently and well. For example, when the tree is young, pruning should be controlled, mainly light pruning, choosing the central extended branch and various main and secondary branches for short cutting. Adjust the growth direction of the main branches to promote growth. Then later, adjust appropriately according to the growth stage to ensure proper pruning. If pruning is not done in time, the branches become tangled and complicated, causing a decline in permeability, which is not conducive to flowering and fruiting and reduces the economic benefits of planting.
Although planting ponkan is relatively simple, the planting cycle is relatively long, so you should decide whether to plant it according to your own actual situation.
