After planting in the first year, Rosa roxburghii bears fruit the following year. The harvest period of Rosa roxburghii is less than 30 days. Rosa roxburghii is a wild small shrub, from April to June it blooms pink, red or dark red flowers, and blooms in summer and fruits in autumn.

Propagation techniques for Rosa roxburghii

The propagation of Rosa roxburghii seedlings is divided into two methods: vegetative propagation and seed propagation. Vegetative propagation makes use of the characteristic that the branches of Rosa roxburghii easily produce adventitious roots, and carries out seedling raising through division, cuttings and layering. For seed propagation, because Rosa roxburghii seeds have no obvious dormancy period, it is generally divided into autumn sowing and spring sowing. After the seeds mature in early to mid-September in autumn, they can be collected and immediately sown into the seedbed. The seedlings emerge in mid-to-late October, reaching a germination rate and seedling emergence rate of more than 90%. They are transplanted to the nursery in March of the following year, and can leave the nursery by the end of the year. However, in areas with severe winter cold, plastic film needs to be used to cover them against freezing. Spring sowing is from late February to early March each year. In order to increase the germination rate, prepare warm water at 50°C-60°C one day before sowing, and put the seeds into it to soak for 12-24 hours, then take them out and wash them clean before sowing. This can make the seeds germinate 5 days earlier. Generally, seedlings emerge in early April, and from mid-May to early June they can be transplanted to the nursery.
