How to plant a small potted green mango from its seed: method and steps
Green mango, also known as crisp mango, combines the essence of tropical fruits in one and is hailed as the “king of tropical fruits”. It is very popular, and at the same time the leftover seed can be planted into a small potted plant, so how do you plant a small potted green mango from its seed?
1. Remove the pit
We use a fruit knife to cut the mango flesh away, in the end leaving only the hard pit of the mango. Because the freshly peeled mango pit is rather slippery, we first leave it in the sun to dry for a while, and once it is slightly drier, we carry out the next steps.
2. Peel open the hard pit
We use a small knife to pry open the hard outer shell of the mango seed, find the small gap beside the pit, cut it open with the small knife, then use force to split the hard pit into two pieces, and take out the seed. In this step, be careful not to cut your hand, and do not scratch the mango seed, otherwise the survival rate will be affected.
3. Soak the seed
We place the extracted seed embryo in water to soak. When soaking, be careful not to touch the embryo; only if the embryo develops well will it help the seed germinate later.
4. Grow the seedling
We choose a flower pot of a suitable size, put relatively soft soil in the pot, then bury the seed halfway into the soil. This can protect the embryo from being bitten by insects, and it is also good for seed germination.
5. Separate into pots
When the mango seedlings grow out, we can separate the seedlings into pots for planting. Because a mango seedling will become very tall after it grows up, it is best to plant only one in each flower pot.
6. Later-stage management tips
If we are growing it indoors, then we need to water it an appropriate amount. In summer, water once a day; in winter, generally water once every one to two weeks. Also, indoors, do good ventilation work to avoid pests and diseases.
