Red pomelo is a very common fruit, sweet and fragrant, and one of the essential fruits of the autumn and winter season. The red pomelo seeds left after eating can still be planted. So how do you plant red pomelo seeds? 1. Sprouting To grow pomelo, you first need to collect the pomelo seeds; just keep the large, plump seeds, and it is best not to use the small, shriveled ones. Tear off the outer skin, but do not let the seeds get damaged. If you skip this step, they will be very hard to sprout. Red pomelo is a very common fruit, sweet and fragrant, and one of the essential fruits of the autumn and winter season. The red pomelo seeds left after eating can still be planted. So how do you plant red pomelo seeds?

1. Sprouting

To grow pomelo, you first need to collect the pomelo seeds; just keep the large, plump seeds, and it is best not to use the small, shriveled ones. Tear off the outer skin, but do not let the seeds get damaged. If you skip this step, they will be very hard to sprout. Then put the seeds in clean water and soak them for 5-7 days; during this period, change the water every day to prevent the water from developing an odd smell.

2. Sowing

Prepare loose soil, add an appropriate amount of small stones or perlite to it, plant the pomelo seeds, and then spray with water. In winter, cover them with a bag to keep them warm, ensure exposure to scattered light, and simply care for them indoors.

3. Fertilizer and water management

Red pomelo has many flowers, large fruit and high yield, and consumes a lot of nutrients. When fertilizing, you should meet its requirements according to the amount of fruit set and the growth condition of the tree. Generally, for each mu producing 3000 kg of red pomelo, 100 to 150 kg of urea, 60 to 100 kg of phosphate fertilizer and 3050 kg of potassium fertilizer should be applied each year. At the same time, apply more organic fertilizer, with 30 to 50 kg of barnyard manure or 2 to 3 kg of cake fertilizer per plant, to improve fruit quality.

4. Pest and disease control

Red pomelo often suffers from some pests and diseases, which should be controlled according to the actual growth condition. The specific control methods are the same as those for other citrus fruit trees.

5. Pruning

Red pomelo can be trained into a natural round-headed or natural semi-round shape. The trunk is cut back to a height of about 30 to 45 cm. After new shoots emerge, keep more basal branches, pinch out the growing tips in time to promote branching, and use methods such as pulling, propping and hanging branches to increase the opening angle of the main branches and secondary main branches, cultivating a natural round-headed canopy. For red pomelo, the fruiting mother branches are best for fruiting when they are vigorous spring shoots, so pruning does not need to be precise; simply remove dead branches, diseased and pest-infested branches, and overlapping branches.
