Grape vines can be propagated by cuttings, and cuttings of grape vines are also sold on the market. Buy one and plant it in the ground, and it will soon flower and bear fruit. So, how many years until cuttings of grape vines bear fruit?
1. How many years until cuttings of grape vines bear fruit?
If cuttings of grape vines are managed well in the first year, with sufficient fertilizer and water, they will form flower buds and bear fruit in the second year. If they are not managed well, fruiting may be delayed. Of course, different varieties of grape vine cuttings will differ somewhat in fruiting time.
2. How do you take cuttings of grape vines?
1. Time: Start when the local soil temperature (at 15-20 cm) is steadily above 10°C.
2. Plot: Choose a place that is flat, has deep soil, loose and fertile soil, and irrigation available. In the previous autumn, plow the soil 30-40 cm deep, apply organic fertilizer along with the deep plowing, and carry out winter irrigation. After the soil thaws in early spring, harrow the land in time to preserve soil moisture.
3. Seedbed: Determined by the shape of the plot. Generally the bed is 1 m wide and 8-10 m long, with a cutting spacing of 12-15 cm and a row spacing of 30-40 cm, and 3-4 rows are inserted in each bed.
4. Cuttings: Cut the branches into cuttings with 2-3 buds, about 20 cm long. For varieties with long internodes, leave only 1-2 buds on each cutting, and the buds on the upper part of the cutting should be plump and full. When cutting the cuttings, make a flat cut at the upper end 1 cm above the bud, and a slanted cut at the lower end below the bud.
5. Planting: Insert the cuttings diagonally into the soil, leaving one bud eye exposed above the ground, water after planting, and cover with plastic film. Afterwards, water about once every 10 days and wait for rooting. After rooting, strengthen fertilizer and water management to ensure strong seedling growth.
