Evergreen and putting green grass are two common types of lawn in daily life, with high greening value, and are widely planted in ecological green spaces and golf courses, so what is the difference between Evergreen and putting green grass?

1. What is the difference between Evergreen and putting green grass?

The difference between Evergreen and putting green grass is that Evergreen is a cool-season lawn, generally used as ground cover in modern landscapes, an ecological green space where lawns are matched with each other, both beautiful and environmentally friendly. Putting green grass is mostly a warm-season lawn, a dwarf variety of Bermuda grass, usually planted on golf putting greens.

2. How is Evergreen grass planted?

1. Fine soil preparation

Before planting, the land is required to be relatively level, with a height difference within 3-5cm per mu; both heavy clay soil and soil with a high sand content need to be improved, to make it easier to lift and roll the turf later once the grass has formed a lawn. While preparing the soil, an appropriate amount of chemical fertilizer and decomposed organic fertilizer can be applied, generally 5g of diammonium per square meter and 5g of potassium chloride.

2. Establishing a drainage and irrigation system

Evergreen grass has a relatively high demand for water, especially during the period from sowing to emergence; the top 2-3cm of soil must neither dry out from water loss nor allow waterlogging in the field, so a good drainage and irrigation system needs to be established.

3. Choosing varieties

Generally, when building a lawn, seeds of different varieties need to be selected and mixed for sowing; it is not advisable to sow a single variety. The variety mixing ratios are 2/3 Kentucky bluegrass plus 1/3 tall fescue, 2/3 Kentucky bluegrass plus 1/3 ryegrass, or a mix of different varieties of Kentucky bluegrass sown together.

4. Seed treatment

Before sowing, seed dressing or seed coating is needed. In areas where underground pests occur more frequently, seed dressing with 0.2% ridomil or methyl tolclofos is required, and during this process the seed dressing must be carried out strictly according to the instructions.

5. Sowing time

In the Beijing area, the sowing time is from April 10 to 25, or from August 20 to September 20. Sowing in autumn is generally suitable, as it helps suppress weed growth through normal lawn emergence, preventing weeds from competing for the nutrients of the Evergreen grass.

6. Sowing depth

When sowing a single variety, the seeding rate is 10-12g per square meter for Kentucky bluegrass and 30-40g per square meter for ryegrass; for mixed sowing, calculate according to these rates, then mix the seeds evenly and spread them on relatively firm topsoil, avoiding sowing too deep, then use a soil mixer to mix the soil to a depth of about 0.5cm, and finally use a roller to press lightly.

7. Reasonable irrigation

After sowing is completed, irrigation should be carried out promptly. Never flood-irrigate the lawn; sprinkler irrigation can be used during this period, with a 30-meter sprinkler head. If a 50-meter sprinkler head is used, topsoil covering is needed, otherwise the seeds will be washed away by water, resulting in uneven emergence. When watering, the soil needs to be soaked thoroughly, then after about 15 days the seedlings will emerge; the standard for emergence is every plant per square centimeter, which means a full stand.
