1. Seedbed

For growing bamboo, a slightly acidic soil that is deep and fertile, well-drained, and rich in organic matter and mineral elements is suitable. In winter, deep-plow the soil and apply base fertilizer at the same time; in early spring, level the soil and make seedbeds 1 m wide.

2. Sowing

Soak the bamboo seeds in warm water, changing the clean water once a day, and soak continuously for two days. Once the seeds have fully absorbed water and swollen, take them out and sow them at a spacing of 20×20 cm between plants and rows, with holes 1 cm deep. After sowing, cover the bed surface with a 1 cm thick layer of rice straw and water immediately to keep the soil moist while waiting for germination.

3. Management

When more than 50% of the bamboo seedlings have emerged, promptly set up a shade shed and remove the covering straw. The light transmittance of the shade shed should be 40% at first, and as the number of tillering events of the bamboo seedlings increases, the light transmittance can be increased to 60%; remove the shade shed after autumn. After the bamboo seedlings emerge, promptly remove weeds from the seedbed, and water promptly after weeding. When more than 80% have emerged, spray Bordeaux mixture once every 10 days, which can prevent and control many diseases and pests.
