What Kind of Plant Is Moss? Key Points of Pot Cultivation Explained
There are many kinds of moss, and the more common species in China include Sphagnales, Andreaeales, Bryales and so on. Many people are unclear about what kind of plant moss is? In fact, its role in nature is very great; it not only promotes the terrestrialization of swamps, but also has functions such as conserving soil and water. So what are the key points of the cultivation method for potted moss?
1. What kind of plant is moss?
Moss is an indicator plant in nature that can monitor the degree of air pollution. It is a higher plant among lower plants, existing in nature in the form of spores, with no seeds and no flowers.
As representatives of small green plants, bryophytes have a very simple structure, containing only two parts, leaves and stems. Some species have only a flat thallus, and they do not have true roots or vascular bundles. Bryophytes like to grow in sunny, moist environments, and are generally commonly seen on exposed rock faces, or in moist forests and swamps.
2. What are the key points of the cultivation method for potted moss?
Potted bonsai are quite common now, and using moss for landscaping is indeed a relatively good plant choice. This is because only with the decoration of soft green moss does a potted plant have a certain vitality. We can learn about the specific methods for potting moss:
1. Potting
After collecting your favorite moss species from moist places in the woods, you can pot them. Spread a thin layer of fine loess on the flower pot you like, remove impurities, and then use a small tool to scrape the loess flat. Take the moss patches collected from the wild, remove the soil at their roots and clean off impurities, then combine them tightly with the soil in the flower pot. After watering thoroughly, place them in a cool, ventilated place for care, and spray water every day to maintain a certain humidity.
2. Inoculation method
Grind moss together with soil, starch and so on into a muddy substance, then brush it directly onto the surface of the soil in the flower pot or onto the trunk, roots or rockery of the bonsai. Under suitable conditions, beautiful moss can generally grow in two weeks.
3. Key points of care
During the growth of moss, just like the growth of other plants, watering is needed, and it should be watered thoroughly at one time. The timing of watering should be based on whether the moss has buds emerging or whether the buds are plump. Moss mainly maintains humidity by absorbing water molecules from the air, so it should be sprayed with water appropriately.
The suitable growth temperature for moss is around 25 °C. When the temperature is relatively low, it may look wilted; as long as it is moved to a warm place, it will recover its vigorous vitality.
Moss likes to grow in dark environments, but it still needs a little diffused light, and generally the light in the early morning is more suitable.
During the care of moss, the environment should also be kept ventilated, otherwise bacteria are very likely to breed.
