How to Grow Daisy Seeds in Pots? A Detailed Guide to the Method
Daisy, also known as horsehead orchid, lifelong chrysanthemum, spring chrysanthemum, sun daisy, etc., is a flower with great ornamental value. Below we introduce how to pot-plant daisy seeds and how to care for them normally.
1. How to pot-plant daisy seeds?
Daisies are generally sown in autumn in August-September, or can be sown in spring. Before sowing, soak them in clean water overnight, remove and let dry, then broadcast sow them evenly in the prepared potting soil. After sowing, cover with about 3 cm of thin soil, and finally spray the soil moist.
2. How to care for potted daisies?
1. Soil
Daisies do not have very high requirements for soil, but using fertile soil with good drainage and aeration for planting can make them grow more vigorously. We can use leaf mold, garden soil, paddy field soil, etc. mixed together to make fertile, loose soil suitable for daisy growth. You can also use the above soils alone or mix them with coal cinder, river sand, etc.
2. Temperature
The suitable growth temperature is 20-25°C. The southwest region is suitable for planting medium and small single-petal or semi-double-petal varieties. Medium and large double-petal varieties grow weakly and set seed poorly.
3. Light
In spring, autumn and winter, they need to be placed in a place with as much sunlight or sufficient light as possible. In summer when temperatures are high, avoid direct sunlight.
4. Fertilizing
Following the principle of frequent application of thin fertilizer, topdress about once every ten days. You can use compound fertilizer or some organic fertilizer liquid diluted with water for watering. You can also alternate compound fertilizer and some water-soluble fertilizer liquids for fertilizing, which can make them grow more luxuriantly. Generally, in seasons when growth is slow, we can fertilize once every one and a half months.
5. Watering
When growing daisies in pots normally, follow the watering principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet, try to avoid daisies grown on balconies being soaked by rainwater for long periods in rainy weather, and the flower pot should have good aeration and drainage to avoid water accumulation.
