Qiuyue pear is a hybrid pear tree variety introduced from Japan. Its fruit is sweet and tart, rich in nutrients, and one of many people's favorite fruits. For fruit growers, Qiuyue pear has high yield and stores well, with no off-flavor even after long-term storage, making it a preferred variety for pear cultivation. So how many years does Qiuyue pear generally take to bear fruit?

1. How many years until Qiuyue pear bears fruit

Generally, Qiuyue pear saplings bear fruit in the second year after planting. Under dense planting conditions, yield increases substantially as the growth period lengthens. At the initial fruiting stage, yield is generally low. From the fourth to fifth year, the trees enter the full fruiting period, with yield per mu reaching about 3500-4000 kg, and by the sixth year, yield per mu can reach over 5000 kg.

The Qiuyue pear fruit is slightly flattened with a regular shape. Unlike the snow pear (Pyrus nivalis) we commonly see, the skin of unbagged Qiuyue pear fruit is slightly greenish-brown, turning yellowish-brown after storage, with creamy white flesh. The appearance of Qiuyue pear is not as bright as that of snow pear, but in terms of taste, Qiuyue pear has crisp, tender flesh and is very fragrant, in no way inferior to snow pear. In addition, Qiuyue pear trees have good adaptability, strong cold and drought resistance, and fewer diseases during cultivation, which is a major advantage for planting.

2. Cultivation techniques for Qiuyue pear

1. Planting management

Soil: Qiuyue pear is not strict about soil requirements, but it is best to provide loose soil with good drainage.

Seedling selection: When planting, choose mainly large, strong seedlings. Tree varieties that perform well at the seedling stage also have strong disease resistance.

Digging holes: Decide whether to dig planting holes based on soil conditions. On hills and mountain slopes, planting holes need to be dug, gravel cleared out, and soil replaced and backfilled. On flatland sandy loam, there is no need to dig planting holes.

2. Flower and fruit management

Flower thinning: During the inflorescence separation stage of Qiuyue pear, entire inflorescences should be removed at a certain spacing. Generally, leave 1 inflorescence at a spacing of about 25 cm, and remove all the rest. Use mixed pollen for artificial pollination.

Fruit thinning: Remove fruits that are damaged by pests and diseases, poorly fertilized, irregularly shaped, leaf-rubbed, upward-facing, or downward-hanging.

3. Fertilizer and water management

Fertilizing: During growth, to increase yield, apply fertilizer in a timely manner in August, mainly organic fertilizer.

Light: Provide sufficient light during the growing period. If there are weeds or shrubs affecting light, they need to be cleared in a timely manner to enhance light penetration.

Watering: Water according to the growth of Qiuyue pear. Do not water if there is no drought, but be careful not to cause waterlogging when watering.

Pruning: During winter pruning, shorten the main branches. Regular pruning is also needed during the growing period. Suitable tree shapes are the small-canopy sparse-layer form and the Japanese-Korean trellis form.

That is all for Qiuyue pear. Although Qiuyue pears on the market are not sold expensively, they are full of the sweat of fruit growers behind them, and we should still cherish them when eating.
