How to Plant Orange Seeds So They Grow into Orange Trees: A Detailed Guide to the Planting Method
Both mandarins and tangerines belong to the loose-skin citrus category of the genus Citrus in the family Rutaceae. The fruit has a thick rind and a slightly sweet-and-sour taste. Today we will explain how to grow an orange tree from orange seeds.
1. Soaking
Before planting, clean the orange seeds thoroughly and soak them in clean water for about a week, changing the water once a day. Make sure the seeds are thoroughly clean, then remove them once they have absorbed enough water and set them aside.
2. Preparation
Using tweezers or another tool, carefully peel off the outer skin of the orange seeds, but do not damage the tissue inside. Removing the outer skin will make them sprout faster.
3. Planting
Plant them by the dibbling method, with the sharper end of the seed pointing up and the slightly rounder, blunter end pointing down. Keep a certain spacing between them. After planting, cover them with a 2cm layer of soil, but do not press it down too firmly.
4. Care
After planting, water appropriately every day. It usually sprouts about 20 days after planting. If the temperature is relatively low at planting time, sprouting may take longer.
Oranges should not be eaten in excess. Eating too many can cause carotenemia, with the skin turning dark yellow, similar to jaundice. If your palms turn yellow from eating too many oranges, simply stopping for a period of time will gradually restore your skin color to normal.
