2. Key care points for Dendrobium flowers
Water: during the growing season keep the potting soil moist; in winter the plant enters dormancy and should be kept a little drier. When it is dry, especially in hot summer, mist the leaves and the ground frequently to increase the humidity in the air.
Light: avoid strong direct light. In northern, eastern and central China, provide appropriate shade in summer, allow direct light in winter, and place in diffused light in spring and autumn. In the south, provide appropriate shade in all four seasons.
Soil: prefers a loose, moist soil environment.
Fertilizer: during the growing period apply dilute liquid fertilizer 2~3 times per month, and when flower buds differentiate add one application of liquid fertilizer mainly based on phosphorus fertilizer.
Propagation: both sowing and division can be used for propagation. The aboveground stems of Dendrobium are very long, and new plants can grow from the stem nodes. They have both stems and leaves as well as roots. Cut them into sections and plant them in another pot. Stem segments of small clumps that have not yet sprouted can also be used for cutting propagation. Insert them into marl soil, keep them in high temperature and high humidity, and they will soon take root and produce leaves.
Laoyanshan Dendrobium officinale is produced in Yandang Mountain, Zhejiang, and is a rare and endangered plant under China's Class II national protection. Together with snow lotus, ginseng, Chinese caterpillar fungus and other precious Chinese medicinal materials, it is called the “nine great immortal herbs”, and is called the “giant panda of the medicinal world” by the international medicinal plant community.
