A Complete Guide to the Key Techniques for High-Yield Rapeseed Cultivation
Rapeseed is grown in various regions across China and is one of the main oilseed plants, with a very high oil content in its seeds, roughly above 40 percent. The tender leaves and flower stalks of rapeseed can be eaten as vegetables, which is the rapeseed shoots we usually eat, and they taste very crisp. The seeds of rapeseed also have certain medicinal value, and the leaves can be applied externally to reduce swelling. Let's take a look below at the high-yield cultivation techniques for rapeseed.
1. Seed selection
Whether rapeseed yields abundantly also depends greatly on seed selection, because the geographical environment and climate type of each place differ, and the varieties chosen should also differ. Overall, you should choose rapeseed varieties with strong disease resistance, good adaptability and high yield.
2. Sowing time
The sowing time of rapeseed depends on the rapeseed variety, the climate of the planting region, the transplanting period and so on. For winter varieties, the sowing period should be appropriately advanced, while for spring varieties it should be appropriately delayed a little. Attention should be paid to grasping the timing, because sowing too early or too late will both affect the growth of rapeseed.
3. Planting density
The transplanting density of rapeseed should be determined according to the scale of rapeseed planting. Generally, after planting, the cold resistance will decline somewhat, so strong seedlings should be planted a little more thinly as appropriate. Before planting, use human and livestock manure as base fertilizer and mix it evenly with the soil when preparing the land.
4. Water and fertilizer control
After rapeseed is sown, if the seedbed is too dry, water should be supplemented in time. When two leaves and one heart have grown, the planting density should be well controlled. Attention should be paid to combining water and fertilizer, controlling them reasonably according to the growth of the rapeseed seedlings, and preventing the occurrence of excessive seedling growth.
5. Transplanting
When rapeseed seedlings have grown five to seven true leaves, they can be transplanted, generally choosing late October to early November. Apply heavy base fertilizer, increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and apply boron fertilizer reasonably. When buying borax, pay attention to its effective content, because if the content is very low, it will not achieve the desired effect.
After deep plowing, rake the land level. The transplanting density is about seven to eight thousand plants per mu. When transplanting, choose clear weather and transplant with soil as much as possible to reduce damage to the root system. After transplanting, immediately water with rooting water and pay attention to care.
6. Management after transplanting
After rapeseed seedlings are transplanted, if more than six leaves turn green again, choose clear weather to weed the rapeseed. The use of herbicides must follow the instructions, and do not miss spraying or spray repeatedly.
By November, appropriate topdressing should be carried out. Those with poor growth should be fertilized earlier and more, with the specifics determined according to the growth of the rapeseed seedlings.
7. Pest and disease control
Common pests and diseases during the growth of rapeseed include sclerotinia rot, flea beetles, aphids and so on. Pay attention to observing the rapeseed leaves in time to see whether there are corresponding symptoms, and promptly use medication for treatment or physical control.
