• High-quality and high-yield cultivation experience and key technical points for Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong)

    1. Site selection and land preparation. In the Sichuan production area, early rice fields are chosen for planting. After harvesting the early rice, plough and harrow the field into beds and level them. 2. Cultivating planting material. The above-ground stem nodes of Chuanxiong, commonly known as "lingzi," are specially cultivated in mountainous areas at an altitude of 900-1500 m to supply planting material for flatland or hilly areas. At the Beginning of Spring

  • Detailed Guide to Pollution-Free Production Techniques for Bupleurum

Bupleurum: Bupleurum is the root of the Apiaceae plant Bupleurum chinense DC. The taste of Bupleurum is bitter and pungent, with a slightly cold nature. It enters the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. It has the functions of dispersing and reducing fever, soothing the liver and relieving depression, and raising yang and lifting prolapse, and is mainly used for cold and fever, alternating chills and fever, chest and hypochondriac distention and pain, menstrual

  • How to Grow Bupleurum for Higher Yields? A Detailed Guide to Practical Cultivation Techniques

Bupleurum is a perennial herb of the Apiaceae family, whose roots are used as medicine; it is a traditional Chinese medicinal species in great market demand. As social demand increases year by year and wild resources become increasingly scarce, the market gap grows ever larger, and the market prospects for cultivated Bupleurum are very broad. Cultivated Bupleurum is mainly grown by direct sowing in spring.

  • What are the key cultivation techniques for Bupleurum (Chaihu)?

    1. Site selection and land preparation. Bupleurum prefers a warm and humid environment, likes light, tolerates cold and drought, and fears waterlogging. For the cultivation site, sandy loam or loam with deep soil, loose and fertile texture, and good drainage should be selected. Before sowing, in combination with deep plowing and land preparation, apply 3500 kg of decomposed stable manure or farmyard manure per mu as base fertilizer

  • Detailed Explanation of Key Points on Bupleurum Cultivation Techniques

One, Bupleurum is also known as hard-seedling Bupleurum and bamboo-leaf Bupleurum, and is a plant of the Apiaceae family. Northern Bupleurum (Bupleurum chinense) is used medicinally for its root. It has the effects of releasing the exterior and harmonizing the interior, soothing the liver and clearing heat, and regulating menstruation. It is distributed in Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong and other provinces. Two, characteristics: perennial herb, 40-90 cm tall

  • How to Grow Coptis chinensis for High Quality? Detailed Key Points of Cultivation Techniques

    I. Growth Habits Coptis chinensis prefers cold, high-altitude cool environments, likes shade and moisture, and dislikes direct strong light, high temperatures and dryness. In the wild it is mostly found in high mountain areas at altitudes of 1200-1800 m; for cultivation, areas at altitudes of 1400-1700 m should be chosen. The temperature range for normal plant growth is 8-34 degC; below 8 degC or low

  • Detailed Explanation of Artificial Breeding Techniques for Schisandra chinensis Cultivation

The special medical and health-care effects of the Chinese medicinal herb Schisandra chinensis are increasingly favored by people. However, the breeding and seedling cultivation of Schisandra chinensis is a difficult problem. The Schisandra chinensis improved variety breeding base in Kuandian County, Liaoning Province, used wild Schisandra chinensis to cultivate excellent new varieties of Schisandra chinensis. Its method is

  • Key Technical Points for Soil Management in Schisandra (Five-Flavor Berry) Orchards

In nature, soil is the foundation for plant growth and fruiting, and the source of water and nutrient supply. When the soil is deep, loose in texture, and well aerated, soil microorganisms are active and can improve soil fertility, which in turn favors root growth and enhances metabolism,

  • Detailed Explanation of Key Points on Seed Sowing and Seedling Raising Techniques for Schisandra chinensis

1 Seed collection After late July, seed selection can begin in artificially cultivated gardens. The selection standard is to designate fruit-bearing trees with clusters longer than 8 cm, average berry weight above 0.5 g, and early berry coloring as seed collection trees. Harvest the fruit in mid-to-late September, pile and ferment for a few days, then select by water, skimming off shriveled

  • Key Points of Shaping and Pruning Techniques for Schisandra chinensis Cultivation

The vines of Schisandra chinensis are soft and cannot stand upright, so they need to attach to a support and twine upward to grow. Therefore, its shaping work includes two tasks: setting up supports and pruning. (I) Setting up supports The growth amount of Schisandra chinensis in the year of planting varies greatly. Under conditions of poor seedling quality and poor management, plant height generally reaches only 50-60 cm, but after stumping pruning, the average growth height in the second year can reach more than 150 cm, and by the third year it can cover the trellis surface. Therefore, supports can generally be set up in the spring of the second year (early to mid-May). Supports can use trellis poles and sun-resistant polyethylene rope. Bamboo poles are often chosen as trellis poles. Bamboo poles are 2.0-2.2 m long, with a top diameter of 1.5-2.0 cm; sun-resistant polyethylene rope with a thickness of 3×15 strands is more suitable, with the upper end fixed to the first iron wire at the top. According to the plant spacing, 1-2 poles per plant. When the plant spacing is less than 50 cm, one pole can be set per plant, placed about 5 cm beside the plant; when greater than 50 cm, two poles per plant, evenly inserted or fixed on both sides of the plant. The part of the bamboo pole entering the soil is best coated with asphalt to extend its service life. The trellis poles are fixed to the three trellis wires with thin iron wire. In a Schisandra chinensis orchard with good seedling quality and management, the plant can reach a growth height of about 2 m in the same year, so supports should be set up in late May of the planting year to facilitate rapid plant growth.

(II) Shaping

The purpose of shaping Schisandra chinensis is, through artificial intervention and induction, to make it grow and develop according to the grower's requirements, so as to fully use the trellis space, effectively use light energy, reasonably retain vines, regulate the relationship between vegetative growth and reproductive growth, and cultivate robust and long-lived plants, so that they adapt to climatic conditions and facilitate farming, pest and disease control, pruning, and harvesting operations, thereby achieving the goals of high yield, stable yield, and high quality.

The tree form commonly used for Schisandra chinensis is a training method with one group or two groups of main vines, that is, each plant retains 1 group or 2 groups of main vines, which are respectively twined on evenly arranged supports. On each support, 1-2 fixed main vines are retained. Lateral vines and fruiting mother branches grow on the main vines. The spacing between each fruiting mother branch is 15-20 cm, evenly distributed. Fruiting branches and vegetative branches grow on the fruiting mother branches, as shown in Figure 5-3. The advantages of this shaping method are that the tree structure is relatively simple, and the shaping and pruning techniques are easy to master; cultivation can be carried out between plants and rows, making weed control convenient; the plant volume and load are small, and the requirements for soil, fertilizer, and water conditions are less strict. However, because the plant is relatively upright, it is prone to forming a situation of strong upper growth and weak lower growth, with the fruiting position moving upward, so control needs to be strengthened.

Each tree generally needs 3 years to form its tree shape. During the shaping process, special attention should be paid to the selection and retention of main vines. Branches with strong growth vigor, full growth, and plump buds should be selected as main vines. The number of main vines in each group must be strictly controlled. Too many main vines will cause adverse consequences such as weakened tree vigor and chaotic retention of branch groups.
