In fact, propagation is one aspect of ensuring its growth. ⟦4
Bougainvillea is a plant that combines ornamental value and medicinal value in one, and it is a relatively common flower variety on the market in our country. After many people buy a bougainvillea and bring it home, they do not know how to grow it so that it grows well. In fact, propagation is one aspect of ensuring its growth, and there are many propagation methods, the most important of which is cutting propagation.

Bougainvillea Cutting Propagation Methods

1. Preparation before cutting. The first thing to prepare is, naturally, the soil substrate. Sandy soil can be used, with some perlite and peat added. Then there is the flower pot. Bougainvillea has low requirements for the pot; a simple plastic pot is enough. Finally, prepare the branches to be cut. Cut strong branches from the current year's growth that have become woody or semi-woody.

2. Cutting propagation method. Insert the cutting into the mud block to a depth of about 7-8 cm, leaving the node with leaves exposed. After inserting, water thoroughly, cover the entire surface of the pot with a layer of plastic wrap to maintain humidity, and place it where it can receive scattered light.

3. Care and management after cutting. The most important things in bougainvillea care are, first, maintaining moisture, and second, ventilation. If moisture is insufficient and the leaves wilt and scorch, that will not do; check often, and if the flower mud is dry and the leaves are wilting, spray a little water. Open the plastic wrap every evening for proper ventilation. If it is too stuffy and hot inside, the branches will become moldy and the plant will basically not survive.

When Is the Best Time to Take Bougainvillea Cuttings Bougainvillea is commonly propagated by cuttings in May and June each year. Cut mature woody branches, 20 cm long, insert them into a sand pot, cover with glass, keep moist, and they can take root in about one month; after two years of cultivation they can bloom. The whole plant's flowering period is very long, reaching three or four months. During the flowering period there are many fallen flowers and leaves, which need to be removed in time to keep it fresh and attractive.

How to Repot Bougainvillea

1. Choose a pot and prepare soil. Before repotting, prepare the soil and the pot to be changed to. Choose soil rich in organic matter, loose and fertile, and you can mix a little sawdust or leaf mold into the soil. Generally, the new pot should be a little larger than the old one, which is beneficial for better plant growth.

2. Removing the plant from the pot. There is a little technique to removing it from the pot. For a small pot, just use the index and middle fingers of the right hand to hold the plant's root area, turn the pot upside down directly, use the left hand to cover the drainage hole, and lift outward; the whole pot of soil will come out. As for larger pots, first loosen the soil around the pot to reduce weight and friction, then grasp the root area and lift it out.

3. Potting up. After removing the plant from the pot, clear away some of the soil from the roots, but do not disturb the soil close to the roots. Place tiles in the new pot and it is ready for planting. When potting up, add soil while planting; hold the plant with the left hand and add soil with a shovel in the right hand. Do not bury the soil too deep, as it easily causes oxygen deficiency. If the plant is too large, two people can do the operation.

4. Care after repotting. Water after repotting. If there is no drooping of the leaves, you can immediately apply a little dilute fertilizer water, and then carry out normal care.

Bougainvillea Fertilization Methods

1. Fertilizing at budding in early spring. Fertilizing can begin when new buds sprout in spring. At this time, because the root system has just begun to develop and is relatively tender, and the temperature is not very stable, just water with a little dilute fertilizer water. Before fertilizing, loosen the top 2~3 cun of soil on the pot surface, add a small amount of paclobutrazol to the fertilizer water, and apply them together.

2. Fertilizing in the peak growth season. As the new buds grow larger and more numerous and the leaf area increases, the potted soil is limited and the fertilizer is insufficient, so growth will be poor. May and June are the peak growth season; fertilizer should be applied frequently, once every half a month, and the concentration can be slightly higher. After each fertilization, clean water must be added to reduce odor, replenish water, and help absorption.

3. Fertilization amount. For each plant, the amount of fertilizer water used should preferably be enough to soak through without overflowing. For concentration, fertilizer water to clean water is one to one. If it is a small seedling, use one to two, to avoid damaging the roots and burning the seedling. If compound fertilizer is used, the maximum concentration should not exceed 1 to 500, with 800 to 1000 times being best.

Bougainvillea cutting propagation is actually not difficult. First make the preparations, then choose a suitable time for cutting. After cutting propagation, the growth will presumably be better, so the pot soil needs to be changed in time, and after changing the pot soil the amount of fertilizer applied needs to be controlled, so as to ensure its growth.
